In the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, it may slip your mind to give back to those less fortunate. However, I feel it is crucial to show love by because people are throwing around nothing but hate.
So I have come up with a list of companies who give back. My idea is that you can purchase from some of these companies for those on your list this Christmas and through their giving, you are giving back.
I have found some who give back right here in the U.S. and some who give back over-seas to those who are not fortunate enough to have simple clean water.
I pray some of you will give back in some way shape or form this holiday season, whether it be by doing your Christmas shopping through one or some of these companies, paying for a meal for someone in a drive-thru, giving to the homeless or whatever way your heart desires. I just pray many will pay it forward and show love, because our country needs it.
Please Note: I am not affiliated with any of these companies. I have just done research and came across some amazing companies who I am thinking of purchasing from this holiday season so that I can give back while doing that dreaded Holiday Shopping.
However, there may be some affiliate links throughout, please read the full disclosure.
1. Better Life Bags
I want to mention this one first because – all of these make my heart happy, but while watching this video, I got major chills. The founder, Rebecca Smith, started this company simply by sewing a diaper bag for her unborn son. Everyone loved it and asked her if she would sell them. From then, BetterLifeBags was born. Since then she has been able to give women in her community jobs that they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to get because of barriers such as language, culture or lack of education.
By purchasing from BetterLifeBags you are not only getting an amazing bag or pouch – you are providing a job for a woman right here in America. You are helping her to provide for her family. I think what Rebecca did with her company is absolutely amazing.
2. Ivory Ella
I love elephants. They are magnificent creatures. However, I didn’t know before I read on Ivory Ella that they help maintain a balance in the African landscapes! They pull down trees which help make habitats for other animals. Their footprints create holes which collect water. Elephants are just a crucial part of life in Africa.
Ivory Ella donates 10% of their net profits to Save the Elephants. Since 2015, Save the Elephants has been able to see elephant population growing again. Elephants are magnificent creatures but to keep them around and safe from ivory-seeking poachers, they need our help.
As we are gathered around the table these coming holidays, I pray we remember that not everyone is lucky enough to be able to afford food. There are many across the world who are malnourished and that is what Lauren set out to change.
Elegantees is a company who provides jobs and a better way of life to women in Nepal who have been victims of sex-trafficking.
Not only will you get the excitement of getting (or giving) a trendy new piece of clothing, you will get the satisfaction of knowing that you are providing a better way of life to a woman who once was a victim of sex-trafficking and help them continue on their path to having a better life.
5. Love Your Melon
This company was founded by a couple college students. That alone is awesome. When I think “younger college students” I don’t think about someone who wants to help. So I think it’s worth reading their story and seeing how it all came about and how much they have been able to help out! It’s seriously amazing.
6. Half United
I think this one is cool because it’s head-quartered in NC. Not much happens in this state.
It’s not just because of that that I chose it though. I love that when you purchase just one product, you are supplying seven meals to those in need!
Half United helps people in the USA, Haiti, Cambodia and Fiji. For more info on each of those places and how they have helped there, visit their Fighting Hunger page.
Unless you live under a rock, I’m sure you have heard something about the “TOM’S Shoes.” I’ve heard about it, but didn’t know much about it until I looked into the company for this blog. TOM’S gives more than just shoes, they give so much more which you can read about here.
They offer some apparel items, sunglasses, bags and shoes. The thing that blew my mind though is that they have coffee! For a coffee addict like me, I may need to try this out! Each category of items gives towards a different cause, which is described on their “What We Give” page.
8. Burt’s Bees
This is another well-known company to most. I absolutely love their products! However, aside from they’re amazing and ever-growing line of products, they give back to the community.
Burt’s Bees gives back in many different forms. One way is that they give their employees paid time off to go offer their time within the community. They also partner with several different programs such as The John Avery Boys and Girls Club and Habitat for Humanity to name two. So while you’re getting those stocking stuffers this year, think about Burt’s Bees. I love their products and they do so much for the community.
9. H&M – Sustainable Fashion Collection
This one is totally worth mentioning. I feel like it’s grown into a big name (at least around where I live) and I think it’s awesome that they have their “Sustainable Fashion” collection that’s made from organic cotton. They also have a gift card that will give back on their site as well. Any gift card purchased between November 3rd, 2016 and January 8, 2017 will give back to the UNHCR which is an agency who helps refugees.
This is a company that is super popular everywhere. They are known for their delicious coffee, and I’ve never had anything but awesome service when I go in any Starbucks. So I thought it was worth looking into if they give back in any way. They do in-fact. You can see all the details on this “Community” page.
They also partner and donate to (RED) which is an organization who funds grants for HIV/AIDS across the world. They are working towards an AIDS and HIV free generation.
I think that it’s awesome when bigger companies give back. So I hope that some of you will think about purchasing from a company, whether it’s on this list or not, this holiday season.
If you are the owner of a company big or small who gives back in any way, I would love to hear about it.
