I woke up this morning with a notification on my Buzzfeed app…
Apparently last night over 100 white supremacists, neo-Nazis, KKK, whatever they call themselves… decided they would start a march in Charlottesville, VA. Why? Because it seems they feel the need to cause a big ruckus over the proposal to remove the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
I get that the statue is an important mark of history. History happened. Shit got real. Get over it. It’s a statue. Removing it won’t make history go away. But leaving it won’t make history disappear either.
I’m not sure why we feel like violence is the only way to get our points across? Yes, there have been accounts of reported violence breaking out between the marchers and the counter-protesters.
What does this mean for me & my family?
This gives me the fear that when I go out in public, I may potentially be targeted because there is yet another march on racism & here I am. The little white girl who has to be racist, right?
I’m simply mind boggled by the fact racism is even still a thing with as far as we have come.
I was always taught that there are bad people and there are good people. Why are there still humans being taught to have hate in their heart for a particular race?
Darker skin tone literally just means more melanin. That doesn’t mean they are predispositioned to act or be a certain way.
In teaching my child to pick friends based on how they treat her, I have witnessed more little black girls taking her by the hand and playing with her while the white girls held their nose up in the air and ignored her. More parents need to teach their children to have love in their heart for people who may be different than them.
This ‘march’ is something that has spun out of hand enough to where there was a state of emergency declared.
Over a statue.
If they want to remove it, you destroying your own city will not stop them.
I may be white, but I am not with these white supremacists…
